This is not my usual subject, but I just wanted to share about my new favorite kitchen gadget–my thermal cooker!
Have you seen one of these things? They are awesome! Before we moved into our travel trailer, I did all kind of fun research about living in an RV. I’m so thankful I stumbled upon several websites that recommended the thermal cooker.
I had never heard of one, which is surprising considering how useful they are. They are similar to a Crockpot, but you don’t have to plug it in. That’s right–no wasted energy! That’s very important when living with limited resources or for when you’re camping.
The thermal cooker is also great for when you’re on the go. You can take it camping, on a picnic, or to the beach. The food cooks itself as you play.
So, how does it work? Well, of course there has to be some kind of heating process, but don’t worry. It’s super easy. If you’re cooking up some soup (which is what I usually use it for), just put all the ingredients into the inner pot and heat on the stove until it boils. This is relatively quick and easy, and it uses minimal amounts of your precious energy.
If you want a side dish, you’re in luck! There’s a smaller pot that can nest inside the large pot. I usually prepare some rice in this one. The thermal cooker does a great job cooking rice. It’s softer and fluffier than cooking completely on the stove or in a Crockpot.
Once you have the pot(s) boiling, just slip them in the thermal cooker. In goes the big pot of soup!
In goes the little pot of rice!
Place the lid on and seal it.
Then do whatever you want for 2-8 hours while it cooks! Simple as that!
I love being able to cook a meal in the morning or afternoon and it’s waiting for me when I get home. This was extremely helpful when we were traveling every day and I didn’t have time in the evening to cook. Plus, I didn’t want to have anything sucking up energy in the trailer while we were not plugged in at an RV park.
